Adobe has unveiled Premiere for smartphones and tablets. The app arrives first on Apple iPhones and iPads, while the Android app remains in development. Interested Apple users can sign up for its September 30 release.
Adobe Premiere was initially released in 2003 and has been a popular video editing application for Macs and PCs. It is often used by students and independent movie makers, but has not achieved the success of Avid Media Composer, which was released in 1989 and is used by all Hollywood blockbuster movies making over $500 million. Adobe is attempting to retain market share in light of competition from free, high-quality video editing applications such as DaVinci Resolve, which Notebookcheck uses for editing its YouTube videos and is also available for Apple iPads.
Adobe Premiere for mobile reimagines the desktop app with a touch-friendly user interface that allows social media creators to quickly add images, sound, text, and videos to multiple tracks for editing in up to 4K HDR resolution. The app can generate sound effects from text descriptions and enhance recorded audio using artificial intelligence technology. Adobe Stock assets, including background music and effects, can also be added to videos for free.
Videos are not watermarked and can be used by creators in any way they want, including one-touch export directly to Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. Projects can also be opened in Premiere Pro running on Macs and PCs (sold here on Amazon).
