Adobe kills perpetual licenses for Elements software with launch of Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 2025
Adobe has terminated perpetual licensing for its Elements software lineup with the launch of Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 2025. Users will now be blocked from launching and using the Elements 2025 software after three years of use. This comes years after Adobe ended perpetual licensing of its professional products in 2013.
Photoshop Elements 2025 adds a handful of features powered by AI. The Remove tool and Object Removal Guided Edit allows users to erase undesired background objects by simply painting over them, while AI seamlessly fills in the area to match the surrounding background. The Depth Blur filter allows users to manipulate photos to appear as if they were taken with lenses set to a shallow f-stop. Other new features allow users to combine photos into collages while adding motion effects and changing object colors. Beta access to the companion web and mobile apps is included.
Premiere Elements 2025 adds a handful of new features. Users can manipulate colors more accurately with color lookup tables (LUTs) to establish a consistent look across footage, quickly remove color casts with the White Balance tool, and tune colors with the Curves feature. Access to free, online Adobe Stock title templates and new text control tools give users the ability to finesse motion titles better than before. A simplified timeline and Guided Edits make it easier to get started with editing videos. Access to the companion web and mobile apps is included.
