Adobe has announced the release of Premiere Pro 25.5 with over 90 new and updated effects for video editing. The software will be released on September 12, 2025, in conjunction with the company's presentations at the 2025 IBC expo.
Premiere Pro has been a popular, paid video editing software for Apple Macs and Windows PCs. The software is frequently used by students and indie filmmakers for its integration with other popular Adobe software, including After Effects and Photoshop. However, it has never displaced Hollywood industry standard Avid Media Composer as the de facto video editing software for blockbusters making over $500 million.
The highlight of the update is the addition of over 90 GPU-accelerated, real-time effects and transitions. To aid in adding effects to videos efficiently, the timeline itself has been made more responsive with GPU acceleration as well. Visible audio waveforms during clip dragging, and multi-track clip fade adjustments have been added to improve productivity, according to Adobe. A Surprise Me button randomly adds an effect to videos to help spark creativity.
More Adobe After Effects capabilities have been directly integrated into Adobe Premiere Pro, allowing editors to create simpler effects, such as animating text and logos, within the software for less need for round-tripping.
Filmmakers who want to try out these features can run Adobe Premiere Pro (sold here on Amazon) on a computer with a fast Nvidia GPU (like this one sold on Amazon).
