Former Halo art director accuses Microsoft of systemic harassment and employee retaliation

A former art director for Halo Infinite (and other Halo projects, like Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach) has gone public with serious allegations of misconduct against Microsoft and Halo Studios leadership. Glenn Israel, who is a longtime veteran of the studio, shared a two-part statement on LinkedIn (1) (2) covering a timeline of misconduct that he claims took place between early 2024 and late 2025. His accusations include blacklisting, fraud, and a coordinated campaign of "constructive discharge" to force out unwanted employees.
The timeline provided by the former employee begins with documented complaints filed with Microsoft’s Human Resources in June 2025. According to the post, a representative from Global Employee Relations (GER) responded with threats of retaliation rather than an investigation. This reportedly led to a concentrated four-day harassment campaign in July 2025. Glenn describes that as an orchestrated attempt to manufacture grounds for his termination.
As per the post, Microsoft’s Business Conduct and Compliance (BRI) and Workplace Investigation Team (WIT) failed to intervene despite having full visibility into the situation. The former lead claims his role was eventually labeled "redundant" in September 2025 as a retaliatory measure following the mismanagement of a project titled Halo Campaign Evolved. The post also alleges a blatant violation of Washington State law RCW 49.12.250, which requires employers to provide employees access to their personnel files upon request.
Microsoft has not yet issued a formal response to these specific claims. This news arrives as the studio is trying its best to rebrand Halo Studios. While the current flagship title, Halo Infinite, has a respectable 87 Metacritic score, its player base has leveled off by a lot, currently averaging roughly 4,000-5,000 daily concurrent players on Steam.
Israel concluded his post by warning others against seeking employment at the organization. He also added that he has evidence to substantiate his suspicions regarding how the company handles internal complaints.
