Foldable iPhone renders offer a glimpse into the future
Once more, LetsGoDigital has rescued us from having to imagine what simple line drawings in patent applications could look like in a more realistic manner. We recently reported on Apple’s newest foldable smartphone patent, and it seems (as usual) the Cupertino company couldn’t care less about bringing up the rear when it comes to a particular device trend.
One of the current device trends is for foldable smartphones. Samsung has one, Xiaomi has one…in fact it almost feels like every major manufacturer has something to show, except Apple. The foldable iPhone in the renders could certainly stand out from the field that will be full by the end of 2019. There’s no smartphone/tablet hybrid trickery going on here: The foldable iPhone sticks to a regular smartphone size.
However, this non-tablet turning foldable iPhone can fold inwards and outwards. So you can snap it shut (clamshell mode) and protect it from nature’s vagaries or you can fold it outwards and share content with a close friend or complete stranger (tent mode). Apple may or may not produce a foldable iPhone by 2020, but at least this deliberately bendable device should be free from any potential Bendgate controversy.
