Expertly created renders of Xiaomi's foldable device are superb but highlight one potential issue
Xiaomi’s foldable has now been given special attention from LetsGoDigital, and the results are certainly pleasant to gaze upon. Mostly based on the teaser video released a couple of weeks ago by Xiaomi’s co-founder Lin Bin, the foldable greatly differs from Samsung’s effort in its folding/flexing operation and general appearance.
The “Flex” can be laid flat and used akin to a regular tablet device, and then its left and right sides can either be folded backwards to create a smartphone-type device or folded inwards to “close” it. The renders do show off the Xiaomi smartphone at what could be its best, but picky users might find issue with the width of the foldable while in smartphone mode.
In fairness, the Xiaomi “Flex” does look quite challenging for users with small hands and narrow pockets when it is in its smartphone configuration. But it’s possible the renders look somewhat deceiving, as the teaser video showed the foldable to have a reasonable width to it. Unsurprisingly, it’s too early to say what hardware the “Flex” might sport. It will feature Xiaomi’s MIUI firmware though, and it’s possible it might see the light of day in the second half of 2019.
