Xiaomi’s product manager, Wang Teng Thomas, may find himself in hot water with the company he works for, as it seems he may have accidentally leaked information about the upcoming Mi 9 flagship smartphone, if that really is the device seen in the picture. The executive posted the photo to his Weibo account and later deleted it, but not before it had already been shared. The image appears to have confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi 9 will come with a rear-facing triple camera setup.
Hawk-eyed journalists have been scouring the leaked photo of the flagship smartphone for clues to decide if it really is the real deal Xiaomi Mi 9, and what further hardware (or lack of) can be spotted. For instance, along with the vertically aligned triple camera setup there is an LED flash outside of the camera housing. It’s also possible to see the “Mi” logo but there is no fingerprint scanner on the rear, which seems to confirm that an in-display fingerprint scanner is present.
It also appears that the supposed Xiaomi Mi 9 smartphone in the executive’s hands is covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 5 or even possibly the 6th iteration of the company’s protective cover glass. The smartphone in the leaked image is colored in metallic blue and has a reflective sheen to it. The Xiaomi Mi 9 is expected to come with a Snapdragon 855 SoC and fans of the series will be pleased to know that there will be an Explorer Edition of the flagship smartphone.
