In the same Weibo post where he discussed the design features of the upcoming Mi 9 Explorer Edition, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun also delivered a rather startling morsel of information: The smartphone will feature 12 GB memory. This would put the device on the same RAM amount level as the top-end variant of the Samsung Galaxy S10+.

While describing the aesthetic features of the Mi 9 Explorer Edition smartphone, Lei Jun slipped in a little detail about the device’s specifications that shouldn’t be overlooked. Apparently, this variant of the Mi 9 flagship will come with 12 GB RAM. This would surprisingly match what Samsung has planned for its top-end Galaxy S10+ in terms of memory.

Chances are this giant amount of smartphone memory won’t be made available to the regular Xiaomi Mi 9 phone. At the moment, that device is expected to have 6 GB and 8 GB RAM variant options. In comparison, the Xiaomi Mi 8 offered 6 GB RAM while the Explorer Edition of that particular smartphone offered 2 GB of additional RAM, for a total of 8 GB.

With 12 GB RAM, a rear-facing triple camera setup featuring a main sensor of 48 MP, wireless charging, and a probable Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC onboard, the Xiaomi Mi 9 Explorer Edition could be a force to be reckoned with. A rumored price in China of CNY5,999 (~US$885) has been given for this particular version of the Xiaomi Mi 9. The Transparent Edition of the Mi 9 (featuring the Alita: Battle Angel tie-in) is expected to come with 8 GB RAM and cost CNY4,999 (~US$740).
