Energizer, a brand known better for disposable lithium-ion batteries, has brought new smartphones made under its name to MWC. One is an extremely typical mobile device, although it has a dual pop-up camera. Another is a foldable prototype with specs to challenge Samsung or Huawei in the same regard.

Energizer may be a surprising brand-name for a full electronic device, rather than just a battery that may power the same. However, the brand is also applied to a range of smartphones. It has recently gained 3 new models for 2019. The company has brought them to MWC19, to show off the unusual characteristics they have in some respects.

With its 9.6 millimeter- (mm) thick candy-bar form factor and 6.3-inch HD screen, the Energizer Ultimate U630S Pop may seem like the most unprepossessing new device of the bunch. However, it does have a dual pop-up camera that minimizes the bezels on its IPS-LCD display. Unlike the Vivo Nex S or OPPO F11 Pro, this camera is set centrally in the top edge of the phone.

Energizer's coup de grace, however, is the Power Max P8100S. This is a prototype which was on display, but not available for handling. That is a shame, as it is another foldable phone. This version of the new tech has a 6-inch front display and an attractive red rear panel. They are joined by a hinge mechanism. Unfortunately, the alleged 8.1-inch display on the other side was not shown. The Power Max P8100S is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 855 processor and 8GB of RAM. Energizer estimates that it may be available for purchase in November 2019.

The new Energizer smartphones appear to run Android Pie; in addition, the Power Max P8100S may support 5G at launch and has a 10000mAh battery. The Ultimate U630S Pop will cost US$299, whereas the foldable model may be priced at above US$1000. Nevertheless, it may represent some healthy competition for the Huawei Mate X or Samsung Galaxy Fold at launch.
