FLX Weapon electric mountain bike with 500 W Bafang motor teased in new video
FLX has posted a video on YouTube showcasing its prototype of the upcoming Weapon e-mountain bike. The video shows the electric bicycle riding around the Bootleg Canyon in Nevada. Also included are close-up shots of the model, which give us clues about the e-bike.
As shown on the company’s website, the full suspension electric mountain bike has a stepover frame with a black and white design. A large LCD is mounted on the handlebars, presumably showing your speed and the battery charge level. In the video’s description, FLX confirms that it plans to release two models, the entry-level Weapon and the top specification Weapon X, which will “compete with other bikes in the $10K+ range”.
The Weapon has an aircraft-grade aluminum frame, equipped with a 500 W Bafang mid motor with 850 W peak power. While FLX does not confirm the top speed, if this is a standard Bafang M600 motor, then it will be capable of assisting you at up to 28 mph (~45 kph) and delivering a maximum 120 Nm of torque. An 840 Wh lithium battery, Magura MT5 hydraulic brakes and a Shimano Deore drivetrain are also fitted to the bicycle.
The Weapon X has the same motor and battery, though these sit on a carbon fiber frame, making the bike lighter; it is unclear how much either model weighs. Other upgrades include Fox Factory suspension, Magura MT7 brakes and an SRAM drivetrain. FLX has not announced a launch date for the Weapon electric mountain bikes. However, the company suggests that customers who pre-order either version, when available, will be offered a discount.
