Artificial intelligence is increasingly present in our daily lives. With ChatGPT, Grok and Gemini, it can be hard to keep up. And Elon Musk's next project won't help matters, as he plans to revive the famous Vine platform by adding artificial intelligence.
For the younger generation, Vine was a platform that could be described as ahead of its time. Indeed, acquired by Twitter before its release in 2012, it enabled millions of content creators to share short videos lasting up to seven seconds that could loop indefinitely. In this way, everyone was free to find the theme of their video in order to make views, and some of today's top comedians have enjoyed tremendous success on this platform.
However, with the arrival of Snapchat and Instagram, Vine failed to stand out and Twitter decided to shut the service down in 2017. But by 2022, Elon Musk had shown his interest in the platform by wanting to resurrect it. And it was only three years later that he posted a tweet saying: “We're bringing back Vine, but il AI form”.
As you may have guessed, this platform could take a major step forward in its history by offering content generated exclusively by artificial intelligence. And while this may seem surprising, Meta and OpenAI are already experimenting with this technology, notably with Meta AI, with which you can generate images. For its part, OpenAI seems to be dreaming of a social network with extensive AI integration, according to The Verge.
As for the resurrection of Vine in this form, several obstacles are likely to stand in Elon Musk's way. Indeed, his xAI company doesn't offer video generation templates, which means a major development could be in the offing in the near future. What's more, Grok, while sometimes problematic, could also make an appearance on this next-generation platform.
But one question seems to be on everyone's lips, and that concerns user desires. It has to be said that some are interested in artificial intelligence, while others don't want to see this technology on their social networks. What's more, misinformation is already abundant on certain networks, and this project could accentuate the phenomenon. It remains to be seen whether users will react positively, in which case Vine will have to close a second time.
