Elon Musk has long criticized Wikipedia and called for its boycott. Now, it looks like the tech billionaire is developing his own version of the online encyclopedia and it is going to be called Grokipedia. Musk did not share any more details other than mention that Grokipedia will help xAI understand the universe.
In a response to a post on X by tech founder and investor David Sacks about Wikipedia being “hopelessly biased,” Musk shared that his xAI is building what he calls a “massive improvement over Wikipedia.” Dubbed Grokipedia, this version of the encyclopedia will be essential towards helping xAI in its goal of understanding the universe. It is unclear what stage of development Grokipedia is in and when it will actually become a reality.
Elon Musk, on several occasions, has showed his disdain for Wikipedia, often calling it “Wokepedia” and asking for it to be defunded. Back in January, he claimed that the platform is an “extension of legacy media propaganda” because it recorded that his controversial gesture at the Trump inauguration ceremony was “interpreted by many as a Nazi or a fascist Roman salute.”
As for xAI, Musk spoke about his AI chat bot Grok early in September at All-In Summit 2025 and mentioned Grokipedia. At the time, he stated that Grok is trained to look at a Wikipedia page, as an example, using heavy amounts of inference compute and identify what is accurate and inaccurate, as well as what is missing. It can also rewrite the page and add the missing context.
