Grok is currently down for thousands of users

Users are currently reporting widespread issues with xAI's Grok chatbot. The outage appears to be affecting both the app and web versions of the AI service.
According to Downdetector, the first signs of the outage appeared around 3:52 AM EDT on August 4. Reports then climbed rapidly to 1,605, compared with a normal baseline of just 4, indicating an unusually large service disruption rather than routine user activity.
The outage tracker groups user complaints into three main categories: app issues, website access, and login problems. The distribution of reports suggests the disruption is affecting multiple parts of the service rather than a single feature.
Downdetector also confirmed on X that it began detecting problems with Grok at 3:52 AM EDT, asking affected users to share how the outage was impacting them as reports continued to rise.
At the time of writing, xAI has not publicly acknowledged the outage or shared what caused the disruption. The company has also not provided an estimated timeline for when Grok services will be fully restored.
Since this appears to be a server-side issue, there is little that users can do to resolve the problem themselves. If you're unable to access Grok, sign in, or use the chatbot, the best option is to wait until xAI restores normal service.
