Elon Musk has promised that if the new Tesla Diner Supercharger station does well at its Hollywood location on Santa Monica Boulevard, the concept will expand globally.
Since the Tesla Diner opening on Monday, it has racked up a massive amount of publicity and interest with visitors reporting on the fast-food menu with local organic ingredients, the exclusive merch like Supercharged Gummies candy or the new Optimus action figure, and even on the restrooms in spaceship style.
So much so, that the retro-futuristic Supercharger station concept's expansion now seems a sure thing. The first Tesla Diner will reportedly open in Shanghai as soon as the Chinese New Year.
Tesla has apparently already secured the necessary permits for a 3,000 m2 plot near its Gigafactory in Shanghai, and plans to start building the set of Supercharger stalls, diner facilities, and 66-foot LED screens that now operates at the Tesla Diner in Hollywood.
What wouldn't be the same, however, are the Tesla Diner menu prices in China. A Tesla Burger that goes for $13.5 in Hollywood, would reportedly cost less than ten bucks there, which means that Tesla's drive-in Supercharger concept will be adapting to the local tastes and purchasing power upon expansion.
Tesla could thus create a veritable fast-food chain of diners combined with Supercharger stalls and a movie theater that will cater to the EV crowd, but with unique experiences such as ordering from the vehicle app reserved only for Tesla owners.
Tesla is reporting key earnings on July 23 and Elon Musk could be saying more about the Tesla Diner expansions plans given all the posting about organic ingredients and sourcing from local farms that he has been logging lately.
