Tesla has been constructing a drive-in diner Supercharger, where EV drivers will order food and drinks and watch movies on two large screens as their cars charge, with waiters on roller skates. The huge facility on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles, California, is nearing completion, with Tesla reportedly applying for HVAC and plumbing permits.
Meanwhile, keen-eyed observers have found references to the new business inside the latest Tesla app update 4.41.0. The company included a Tesla Diner UI user interface and a related icon in the release. Other indications in the update's coding are 'DinerHomeScreen,' 'profile_settings_diner_description,' and 'View menu & amenities.'
These findings may suggest Tesla has made significant progress, but the company has not announced when the drive-in diner Supercharger will officially open. In addition, the wildfires in California might affect Tesla's plans.
Tesla has installed the main door and several Supercharger stalls. Drivers will charge 24 hours daily, but the movie screens will only operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Other gems discovered in the code indicate that an insurance discount tied to Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) is in the works. Also, Cybertruck buyers will be disappointed that Automatic Tonneau covers and AC outlets might not be standard across all trims.
