Kia has delayed access to DC fast chargers for North American customers. The company announced last year that owners of the EV6 and EV9 electric vehicles would soon be able to charge at over 16,500 North American Charging Standard (NACS) DC fast chargers in the US, including Tesla Superchargers.
In its initial September press release, Kia indicated that its US customers would be able to use these chargers starting January 15th. On January 14th, Kia confirmed that the access had been postponed without explaining the cause of the delay. The same press release now states that access will be granted at some point in “the first quarter of 2025”; in other words, the release is delayed until March 31st at the latest.
On top of this, some Kia customers are still waiting for their free NACS adapters, which are due to ship in early 2025. These will be delivered to any US customer who purchased a 2024 Kia EV6, a 2024 Kia EV9 or a 2025 Kia EV9 from September 4th 2024. If you bought a Kia EV6 or EV9 before this date, you will be able to purchase an adapter from a Kia dealer at some point in the future; an exact date has not been announced. The 2025 Kia EV6 and the next version of the 2025 Kia EV9 will have a native NACS port.
