A Tesla Cybertruck made it to the shores of the UK but did not survive long on the road. The UK police seized the truck, deeming it illegal and dangerous.
The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) posted on social media that the driver took the truck for a spin on the streets in Whitefield. The law enforcement agency expressed concerns about the safety of other drivers and pedestrians if the Cybertruck got into an accident.
Tesla has imported the Cybertruck to the UK, but only for demonstration purposes at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The truck has not received a certificate of conformity.
The seized Cybertruck was registered and insured in another country, which is prohibited. The driver, a UK resident, “has been reported” and referred for operating a vehicle without insurance.
Tesla currently sells the Cybertruck in North America, where the countries have similar road-worthiness requirements. The EV maker has not revealed any plans to offer the sci-fi-looking pickup truck outside the continent.
Other enthusiasts have somehow got their hands on the steel truck outside North America. Two units were intercepted in Lithuania by customs officials, but some Cybertrucks turned up in the care of Chechen ruler Ramzan Kadyrov, who outfitted them with machine guns.
