Crime fighting in Las Vegas is soon to become cleaner as an anonymous donor bestows 10 Tesla Cybertrucks on law enforcement. The electric pickup truck will be integrated into the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s (LVMPD) patrol and SWAT fleets.
The announcement was made by LVMPD Sheriff Kelvin McMahill at Metro’s 2025 State of the Department address. He said,
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is excited to announce that we will be adding 10 Tesla Cybertrucks to our fleet! These cutting-edge vehicles will be customized for LVMPD patrol and SWAT, helping our officers protect and serve with the latest technology.
McMahill praised the truck’s ability to stop bullets and attract new recruits and assured taxpayers its operation would not strain the department’s budget. The police chief called the truck badass in a post on X accompanied by a rendering of a highly modified Cybertruck.
The donor’s identity has not been revealed, but the Cybertruck is reportedly not selling as fast as Tesla intended, leading the company to accumulate a lot of inventory. Tesla has tried multiple methods to stimulate demand for the truck, including offering free wraps, deep discounts, and reduced leases.
The Cybertrucks will join the LVMPD’s semi-autonomous drones in shot-spotting technology for tracking suspects.
