Tesla has released the much-anticipated Model Y "Juniper" in the Chinese market. The EV maker has not opened the order books yet in its local market, but another public sighting of a prototype might indicate imminent availability.
X user @Teslaconomics has posted a video of a covered Tesla Model Y "Juniper." The car was spotted in Santa Clara, California, with the front and rear bumpers wrapped. Tesla's engineering headquarters is located in the area, and it would make sense to see the new Model Y being tested there.
Eagle-eyed observers sighted some Tesla Model Ys with the front and rear sections concealed late in 2024 in the Bay Area. However, it is interesting that Tesla continues to cover the prototypes even though the updated model has been launched in China, with deliveries scheduled for March 2025.
Tesla has not shared its plans for when the Model Y "Juniper" will be available in the US and the rest of the world. However, if the company follows its release schedule for the Model 3 "Highland," buyers stateside will only have to wait a few months before placing orders.
The Tesla Model Y "Juniper" update adds a wide-view front camera, bringing the total to eight. Other exterior changes include light bars at the front and rear, refreshed bumpers, and aerodynamic improvements. Inside, Tesla has added a rear display screen, similar to the Model 3 "Highland," ventilated seats, and enhanced sound insulation for a quieter cabin.
