While Tesla limited the markets where the new Model Y Juniper refresh will be available in a purely Black color option, it compensated somewhat with a brand new blueish hue that it calls Glacial Blue or Glacier Blue.
The new Model Y color resembles the complex multi-coat Quicksilver color option, but has a decidedly blueish tint that is much lighter than any blue hue Tesla has ever offered for its electric cars.
It is not clear if the new Glacial Blue color option for the Model Y Juniper is a multi-coat paint, but the first snaps of the color in real life and outside under the winter sun in China say that it's probably not.
It doesn't seem to offer the typical "metallic and dark undertones" that are characteristic for the Quicksilver and Midnight Cherry Red multi-coat options coming from Tesla's most modern paint shop in Giga Berlin and, in fact, looks a bit dull in reality.
New Tesla Model Y Juniper Glacial Blue color price
- $1,100
In Australia, Tesla is running a promo that offers all Model Y Juniper colors for free, including the new Glacial Blue option. In China and other places in the Asia-Pacific region where the Juniper facelift is currently on preorder, the fresh hue is a paid option.
As usual, Tesla China only offers the Stealth Gray or "Starry" Gray option, as it is called there, for free, while everything else is paid extra, including the Pearl White multi-coat paint that goes for the equivalent of $1,100 extra. That is the Model Y Juniper Glacial Blue color price as well, while the Quicksilver and "Flame Red" multi-coat options cost 50% more.
This goes to show that the new Model Y Glacial Blue color may not be a multi-coat paint, and there won't be much shimmering or chameleonic hue changes depending on the angle that the light falls on the finish going on when one approaches the car. This is clearly visible from the first photos of the Model Y in Glacial Blue in the real world that can be seen below.
Still, a new color is a new color, and Tesla already racked up orders for 50,000 of the Model Y Juniper units in China just on launch day on Friday, despite that its release date there isn't happening before March.
