Former Toshiba laptop branch Dynabook is updating its Satellite business series with the Pro C50 budget-oriented models aimed at remote workers and students. The new Satellite Pro C50 15.6-inch laptops combine the portability of thin and light chassis with the relatively inexpensive, yet powerful enough Intel Ice Lake processors.
The chassis of the Satellite Pro C50 models has a 19.7 mm profile and the entire device weighs only 1.76 Kg. It also features a special anti-bacterial dark blue paint coating which inhibits the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria. Most of the SKUs feature an FHD non-reflective panel with embedded DisplayPort, but two of the entry-level SKUs feature only a 1366 x 768 display. On the CPU side, we find options like the Core i3-1005G1, i5-1035G1 and i7-1065G7 with integrated UHD Graphics / Iris Plus GPUs, which can be coupled with 4 / 8 / 16 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and 128 / 256 / 512 GB of SATA SSD storage.
Other features that are standard for all variants include:
- Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2 + GbE NIC
- HD camera + dual mic array
- Firmware-based Trusted Platform Module for increased security
- Port selection: 2x USB-A 3.0, 1x USB-C 3.1 (full option), HDMI video output, microSD card reader, combo audio jack, GbE jack
- Up to 9 h 20 min battery life
Dynabook will begin selling these new models globally this March. Pricing information is not available for all variants, unfortunately, at least not for the U.S region. The i3-1005G1 models with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB SSD is priced at $519, and the i5-1035G1 with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD has a $729.99 MSRP, but the i7-1065G7 with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD only appears on the UK site for a bit over $1,000 (might be priced slightly lower in the U.S).
