Diablo IV gets official, first gameplay trailer launched
Seven years since the release of Diablo III, Blizzard has officially announced Diablo IV at BlizzCon. Unfortunately, however, Blizzard hasn’t announced an official release date with the title still anywhere from 12 to 24 months away although the first game play trailer has been released to whet gamers' appetites.
Blizzard has officially announced that it is working on Diablo IV. The title is currently in simultaneous development for PC, Xbox One and PS4 but won’t be launching in the immediate future with a time frame anywhere up to two years away on the cards. However, given Diablo III fans have already waited seven years for the sequel, just the fact that it is now official is a plus. The gameplay trailer below highlights the direction the game is taking.
“Sanctuary has been a home to Diablo players for more than 20 years, and it’s with our own deep passion for the series and a deep appreciation of the community that we announce Diablo IV today,” said J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment. “We’re excited to be returning to the dark, quintessential Diablo gameplay that players love while expanding the world and story in new ways, and we can’t wait for more people to be able to experience it.”
Diablo IV is built on an all-new game engine with guests at Blizzcon able to play the first of three Diablo IV character classes. The Barbarian uses a new more powerful combat system called Arsenal, arming him with the ability to carry and rapidly switch between four different weapons. The Sorceress harkens back to Diablo II with the ability to impale foes on jagged spikes of ice while the Druid is a savage shapeshifter that can fluidly transform between werewolf, werebear and human form unleashing magic powers on the way.

I have been writing about consumer technology over the past ten years, previously with the former MacNN and Electronista, and now Notebookcheck since 2017. My first computer was an Apple ][c and this sparked a passion for Apple, but also technology in general. In the past decade, I’ve become increasingly platform agnostic and love to get my hands on and explore as much technology as I can get my hand on. Whether it is Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, Nintendo, Xbox, or PlayStation, each has plenty to offer and has given me great joy exploring them all. I was drawn to writing about tech because I love learning about the latest devices and also sharing whatever insights my experience can bring to the site and its readership.
