MagyarUpdated | Dell confirms that it is fixing the XPS 15 9570 GPU issue that it previously denied existed
The NVIDIA GPU issues from which some XPS 15 9570 laptops have been suffering may be coming to an end. In a climbdown from what Dell told us privately two weeks ago, a representative has informed us that its Product Engineering Team are working to fix the power limit throttling that some NVIDIA GPUs have been experiencing since the introduction of BIOS 1.3.1.
In a private message, a Dell representative said that:
"The issue should be fixed with the next Bios update. You can expect the new Bios to be released by [the] end of December."
Presumably, Dell will name the next revision BIOS 1.6.1 or 1.7. While this update sounds encouraging, we will of course subject the revised BIOS to a series of NVIDIA GPU tests when it is released to verify Dell's assurances.
We should also stress that the recent BIOS 1.6 release does not contain any NVIDIA GPU related fixes of which we are aware. We will be testing our XPS 15 9570 laptops on BIOS 1.6 too just in case there are any changes that the company has not announced.
Update
Unfortunately, Dell has seemingly changed its mind over when it is releasing the next BIOS release. In a subsequent private message, a representative commented that:
"As of now, we do not have an update on the BIOS update release...There should be an update soon."
We hope that "soon" still means the end of this month, but that remains to be seen. The representative also stated that Dell is "confident" that the next BIOS release will resolve the NVIDIA GPU issue, but the wording of the latest update is less than encouraging that it will see the light of day before the new year.
