This is the biggest XPS 15 refresh since 2016, but is it everything XPS fans have wanted? Of course not — die-hard fans will always find something to complain about. For everyone else, the significant gen-to-gen improvements and new 16:10 display all help make the system more comfortable to use than ever before.

You know, this, the build quality, the upgradability with its 64GB of supported memory in dual-channel and dual M.2 drive slots in RAID 0, as well as the more than decent speakers makes for a great piece of equipment. And if you want to buy the XPS 15 9500, we’ve no reason to tell you not to. As long as you stay away from the Core i5-10300H model, you’re fine, even if you go for the Full HD+ display.

What are the differences between a $1300 XPS 15 and a $2400 XPS 15? Aside from the obvious display resolution and performance advantages, there are some smaller changes as well. We go over all of them here.

The Dell XPS 15 is easily the best 15-inch laptop on the market, and in a lot of ways it's the best laptop period. It's extremely powerful, stylish and light enough to carry around town. We seriously can't find anything that holds it back.

The Dell XPS 15 9500 has a huge amount of pluses and hardly any minuses of note at all – if you want a Windows 10 laptop at this size that can do a bit of everything and do it well, then this is a laptop that you can't help but put somewhere near the top of your shortlist.

If you like the XPS's look and feel but want to save some money, the HP Envy x360 13t is worth looking at. We reviewed the 13-inch version, but it comes in a 15-inch size as well with better battery life but less powerful (and upgradeable) components. Alternatively, you could look at Dell’s own XPS 13 2-in-1 if you want something a bit smaller, touch-friendly, and a similar design to the XPS 15.

Priced at Rs 2,36,287, the XPS 15 is expensive. The only way you can justify this pricing is by not asking about it. If price does not decide what you should buy, consider this one for its premium design, great display, impressive keyboard and touchpad, and swift performance. A caveat: Look elsewhere is you need a premium notebook for gaming and movie streaming.

But let's talk about the good in this magnificent device. Dell took what was already my favorite 15-inch laptop and made it even better. The InfinityEdge display has even smaller bezels, and with a 16:10 aspect ratio, it's remarkably immersive. Adding to the immersion is audio volume and quality that's on par with the best laptops around.

Overall, the new XPS 15 9500 is an excellent laptop with way more hits than misses. The build quality continues to be best in class, it's faster and more fully featured than previous iterations, and is an easy recommendation. It's just not cheap, at least as configured. Priced at $2,299.99, all this luxury commands a premium over run-of-the-mill laptops. However, you certainly get what you pay for with the XPS 15 9500, which is a superb laptop experience in nearly every way.

Dell's XPS 15 laptops continue to be crowd-pleasers. With its eye-catching, slim new design and photo-editing-friendly performance, display and feature set, the latest 15-inch model can hold its own as a less powerful -- much cheaper -- alternative to a 16-inch MacBook Pro ($2,399 at Apple). It's well worth a look if that's how you roll, though you might want to consider the new 17-inch XPS 17 instead for the bigger screen. Both are still premium-priced, and likely not worth the money if all you need is a pretty work clamshell, not a serious workhorse.

But the primary features that have always made the XPS line a compelling buy — the exceptional keyboard and touchpad, the premium build quality, and the gorgeous screen — remain. And the various design tweaks, including the spacious bezel-less display, the wider keycaps, the slim form factor, and the expanded speakers conspire to give the XPS a modern, chic look and an upgraded user experience. If you’ve wanted to buy an XPS 15, but have been waiting for Dell to ditch the dated design, this model is what you’ve been waiting for.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the XPS 15 is in many ways the ideal workhorse PC -- assuming you can live without legacy ports, and you don’t need the graphics rendering power from more advanced GPUs. It's tough to find an ultraportable 15-inch that's this polished from top to bottom. If you’re a photo or video editor or just someone who demands a bit more power than what you’d get from smaller ultraportables, you’ll find a lot to love with the XPS 15’s glorious big screen.

It's no secret that we love the XPS 13. Dell has refined the portable thin-and-light into one of our favorite laptops. At the same time, the XPS 15 has sometimes felt like a neglected member of the family, lacking some of the polish that made the XPS 13 so great.

Dell XPS 15 9500-BNX9508
The Dell XPS 15 9500 is the latest addition to the Dell family. The laptop has a 15.6-inch screen size along with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. It is quite normal for users to refrain themselves from having to carry a bulky 15-inch laptop everywhere despite the improved performance that comes with it. However, the Dell XPS 15 might just break the myth that a 15-inch laptop has to be that bulky, as this laptop is only 18 mm thick and weighs about 2.05 kg. Obviously, this is not the lightest laptop in the world, but with the kind of hardware and long-lasting battery that has been incorporated within this device, the Dell 15 is definitely more portable than it even needs to be. In terms of its connectivity, some cuts have been made, as there are only three Thunderbolt-3 ports, an SD-card reader and a headphone jack. While wired headphone users can rejoice over the fact that there is a headphone jack included in this laptop, the limited number of ports might disappoint some users. However, it should be noted that the overall gorgeous look of the laptop itself might just make users overlook the lack of legacy ports. The Dell XPS 15 is made entirely of CNC aluminum with clean edges and the typical Dell logo on the exterior.
As far as the keyboard is concerned, it has been made with carbon fibre, which makes it even more comfortable. However, it may get a little grungy over time. Apart from that, there are two upward-facing speaker grills on either side of the keyboard. Beneath this is a quad-speaker arrangement that could be by far one of the best heard in a laptop, going right up against the latest 16-inch MacBook Pro. This is undoubtedly a great improvement from the Dell XPS 15 2019, which was equipped with speakers that were too weak to fill even a small room with decent sound. The Dell XPS 15 9500 also comes with a 3840 x 2400 display that hits 100% of the Adobe RGB colour gamut and 500 nits of brightness. In addition to this, the incredibly small display bezels make the screen look even bigger, which improves the overall user experience while watching a movie. This laptop would obviously cater to creative professionals that need a bright, colour-accurate display, and also for viewing high-resolution movies. In terms of its performance, this laptop has been packed with an Intel Core i7-10875H and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Ti, which is technically a gaming GPU. However, it should be noted that the Dell XPS 15 9500 2020 is definitely not a gaming laptop, as its thin and light chassis will not be able to extend itself to long gaming sessions. Overall, this laptop is great for anyone who would benefit from its features.

The Dell XPS 15 2020 follows in the footsteps of the new XPS 13 by making small but welcome refinements to one of the best laptops you can buy. The Dell XPS 15 (2020) is one of the absolute best 15-inch laptops you can buy, with the design, screen and keyboard all boasting industry-leading quality. However, the lack of high-end GPU options mean you may be better off with a MacBook Pro or gaming laptop than spending big on one of the £2000+ configurations.

The Dell XPS 15 is a superb laptop in most respects. Excellent performance, a huge trackpad, amazing speakers, long battery life and a graphics card potent enough to play recent games at 1080p are all squeezed into a laptop that will fit comfortably into a rucksack.

Dell’s latest XPS 15 impresses in most of the key departments. It looks and feels fantastic, and offers plenty of processing power. Its keyboard is superb and its display is bold and crisp. If you’re after a stylish and slim work laptop then the Dell XPS 15 (2021) is well worth consideration – although be aware that you’ll find better colour accuracy and longevity elsewhere. The Dell XPS 15 remains one of the best-looking and strongest work laptops you can buy. It doesn’t just look good, either: it’s fast, offers good ergonomics, and its display is punchy. It’s an ideal choice for most working situations, but we’d advise you look elsewhere if you need perfect colours or exceptional battery life.

Dell’s XPS 15 has long been one of my favorite laptops. I’ve always found it to be the right balance of power and portability. It offered 45W H-series processors and dedicated graphics in a world where if you wanted those things, you’d have to look toward gaming laptops. In more recent years, laptops like these have become more common. NVIDIA launched its Studio program, and more OEMs are targeting creators with separate lines of PCs from their gaming laptops. But while the form factor is becoming more common, the Dell XPS 15 remains on top. The XPS 15 9510 comes with new Intel 11th-generation 45W processors, along with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series graphics, making it the first XPS 15 with RTX. On top of that, it comes with other perks, such as the return of the OLED display and the Frost and Arctic White interior. Not only is it a great PC, but it’s beautiful too. The big downside of course, is it still has a 720p webcam.

Straight to the point, there's a lot to like about Dell's upgraded XPS 15 (9510) with the OLED display option -- and very little to dislike. The physical design is unchanged from last year's model, though quite frankly, we appreciate that Dell stuck with a mold that hits the mark, as opposed to forcing a change simply for the sake of change. This is a sturdy laptop imbued with premium craftsmanship, so no complaints there. We also really like the aesthetic combination of a 'Frost' exterior and 'Arctic White' interior on the model we received. Overall, the pros heavily outweigh the cons. The XPS 15 (9510) is a workhorse with a great trackpad, a gorgeous OLED screen, and an attractive design, packaged in a thin and light chassis. This is all punctuated by long battery life. It's a bit on the pricey side as configured, though the starting price is significantly lower. Either way, this is yet another excellent iteration of the XPS 15 that hits the mark.

The Dell XPS 15 OLED 2022 (starting at $1,449, $2,299 as tested) isn’t an innovative or revolutionary laptop. Aside from its updated internals, it’s virtually identical to the Dell XPS 15 OLED 2021. But while this machine isn't shaking things up, it's still one of the best laptops and best Windows laptops you can buy. All models of the refreshed Dell XPS 15 pack the latest 12th gen Intel Core CPUs and come bundled with Windows 11. Higher-end configurations feature an Nvidia 30-series GPU. Like last year's iteration, Dell offers a model with a 3.5K OLED touch display. Not only is this a stellar laptop for everyday use, but it’s also a competent gaming machine. Though it’s admittedly pricey, it’s hard to argue against its impressive performance. It can handle almost anything you throw at it.

The 2023 Dell XPS 17 and Dell XPS 15 are still the best premium Windows laptops you can buy. Their design and build quality are at the top. As I’ve mentioned, we hope that Dell is considering a refresh for 2024 because while this design is still great, the competition is stepping up its game and Dell should be prepared for that. *We use revenue-generating affiliate links and may earn commissions for purchases made using them. To be honest, the XPS 15 9530 is not a regular laptop. And it shouldn’t be treated as such. If we do that, it might appear that this is not a particularly good machine. Take the crude numbers from the temperature test for example. Looking at them, you won’t be able to see how quietly the device performed, even when the “Ultra Performance” profile was used. However, in real life, the machine does exactly what you need it to. It comes with a comfortable keyboard and touchpad, as well as fantastic speakers. The 3W woofers produce a vibration like no other. That’s definitely not bad for a device that hasn’t changed a bit in the past three years (or more). Thankfully, its battery life is so long that you can comfortably work for two days straight if you don’t have anything intensive to do on your laptop. All in all, this proves that despite the zero effort from the design department this year, and the mild change in generations, the Dell XPS 15 9530 is still one of the best workhorse devices you can get.
