Dell XPS 14 Arc B390 vs. GeForce RTX 4050: 3DMark comparisons don't tell the whole story

The Arc B390 excels in performance-per-watt, but laptops with the GeForce RTX 4050 are still the clear winner when it comes to raw GPU performance

The Arc B390 may be powerful, but it can't quite outperform the 2024 XPS 14 GeForce RTX 4050 in many applications outside of synthetic 3DMark benchmarks.

Excitement surrounding Intel's newest Arc B390 is at an all time high this month following CES 2026 and the recent initial laptop reviews powered by the integrated GPU. Dramatic headlines claiming performance numbers nearing or surpassing the GeForce RTX 4050 can be tantalizing, but how do the two GPUs actually compare based on off-the-shelf laptop models?

The GPU benchmarks below compare the 2026 Dell XPS 14 with Core Ultra X7 358H against the 2024 Dell XPS 14 equipped with the RTX 4050. When looking at synthetic benchmarks like 3DMark, the newer Arc B390-powered Dell comes out ahead by 30 to 40 percent to suggest a significant advantage in raw graphics performance. Reports claiming "better than RTX 4050" performance likely stemmed from similar 3DMark results.

When running actual games, however, the delta between the Arc B390 and RTX 4050 almost evaporates. Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3, for example, run only 5 to 15 percent faster on average on the Arc B390 XPS 14 than the RTX 4050 XPS 14 while older titles like GTA V or X-Plane favor the RTX 4050 XPS 14. Furthermore, many other laptops with the RTX 4050 can run laps around the Arc B390 XPS 14 since they tend to be thicker and larger with higher power ceilings. The performance difference would only grow more in favor of Nvidia after applying any DLSS vs. XESS enhancements.

Outside of gaming, Blender benchmarks would continue to favor the RTX 4050 by wide margins of over 2x when comparing Nvidia OptiX to OneAPI.

The one key advantage of the Arc B390 lies in its low power ceiling for high performance-per-watt. For example, running Cyberpunk 2077 on the Arc B390 XPS 14 would consume just 52 W compared to 95 W on the RTX 4050-powered Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 14. Frame rates would only be 20 percent higher on the Lenovo before applying any AI enhancements and so the Intel iGPU is a much more efficient option.
