Defender 250 unusual three-wheeled e-bike arrives with large battery
Dolas e Bike has unveiled the Defender 250, an unusual three-wheeled model. This e-bike is one of four included in the starting line-up for the new Berlin-based brand. The Defender has three 250W brushless hub motors, one on each wheel, assisting you at up to 25 kph (~16 mph) across two modes, economy and “four-wheel drive”.
The Defender 250 has a large integrated 2,544Wh LiFePO4 battery, which allows you to ride with assistance for up to 180 km (~112 miles). The power pack has a handle to make it easier to release and transport, with the battery fully recharging in five to seven hours. Other features include 4-inch fat tires, a 230 lux headlight and a 4-inch color LCD with USB, showing information like your speed and remaining battery. The e-bike has a patented three-wheel aluminum frame with an intelligent suspension system, adapting to suit your riding style and the conditions, ensuring all three tires are connected to the ground. Including the motors and battery pack, the model weighs 78 kg (~172 lbs) and is 214 cm (~84-in) long.
The e-bike has a higher maximum load capacity of 250 kg (~550 lbs) and a range of accessories to transport luggage, or you can make it a tandem bike with a second set of pedals and saddle. The Dolas e Bike Defender 250 will retail for €4,650, though it is unclear precisely when the model will launch; the website says that the model is arriving “soon”, along with the other three electric bicycles which make up the introductory range. The company will ship to a limited selection of European countries, including the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Norway and Switzerland.
