Cybertruck demoes tightest turn on residential street as rear wheel steering comes into play

Tesla's Cybertruck offers rear-wheel steering which in theory should help diminish the turning radius of the big electric pickup. Rather significantly, as a new Cybertruck recording shows.

The Cybertruck has already been filmed doing a U-turn on the Texas Gigafactory grounds, but from high above with a drone overflight. Even so, the episode was instrumental in demonstrating how the first electric pickup from Tesla can turn on a dime thanks to its rear-wheel steering feature.

Now, however, the movement of the rear-wheel steering mechanism can be seen from up close as a Cybertruck does its tightest turn caught on tape so far, and in an everyday scenario on a fairly narrow residential street at that.

It happens as someone started following a Cybertruck on the streets of Santa Clara. The Cybertruck's driver then puts on its rectangular blinker and turns onto a residential street but goes right into a narrow cul-de-sac, forcing them to have to turn around. The Cybertruck does so without skipping a beat in one uninterrupted maneuver, passing by its stalker who followed it into the cul-de-sac.

It is a rather impressive sight considering how big of a vehicle Tesla's electric pickup is. It dwarfs anything Tesla has made so far with the obvious exception of the Semi, and yet seems to be strikingly maneuverable on city streets. Its off-road abilities should suffice as well, since Tesla reportedly anointed the Cybertruck with generous 35-degree approach and 28-degree departure angles to go over objects, as well as air suspension that can send it quite high in lifted mode.
