The Intel Hades Canyon NUC is finally getting a direct competitor in the form of the Chuwi HiGame. The manufacturer has gathered enough backers over the last few months to finally commit to an August launch window. Backers will be able to buy the Core i5-8305G SKU for $900 USD or a full $400 off the final retail price.

Intel's Kaby Lake-G platform hasn't been popular amongst major manufacturers for one reason or another, but at least one Chinese OEM is willing to pick it up and fans appear to be on board. Chuwi first toyed with the idea of a Kaby Lake-G mini PC back in April and the manufacturer is now ready to move forward with its plans for a limited launch in August.

The Chuwi HiGame is notable for being one of the very few Kaby Lake-G systems available and it will be just one of two mini PCs in existence sporting Core i5 and i7 Kaby Lake-G options. Much like the Intel Hades Canyon NUC, the HiGame will integrate either Radeon RX Vega M GL or Vega M GH graphics depending on the SKU for a performance level similar to a GTX 1050 Ti or GTX 1060 Max-Q gaming laptop, respectively. The chassis size will also be comparable to the Hades Canyon NUC (73 x 173 x 158 mm vs. 39 x 221 x 142 mm) with many similar features such as Thunderbolt 3, dual HDMI 2.0 ports, NVMe SSD, and expandable DDR4 RAM up to 32 GB.

The Chuwi HiGame will launch in two SKUs this August. The Core i5-8305G SKU with Radeon RX Vega M GL will start at $1300 USD while the higher-end Core i7-8709G SKU with Radeon RX Vega M GH will cost $1500 USD. Early backers of the project will be able to purchase the i5 and i7 SKUs for even less at $900 USD and $1100 USD, respectively. Unlike the barebones Intel NUC, the Chuwi HiGame will include SSD storage and RAM for all the prices above.
