Chuwi will upgrade its HiGame mini PC with an even faster Core i7-8709G option
We reported earlier this month that Chuwi would be crowdfunding its first gaming mini PC equipped with a 128 GB SSD and the newfangled Intel-AMD Core i5-8305G CPU with integrated Radeon RX Vega M GL GPU. Although the IndieGogo campaign is still lacking in details and launch dates, the Chinese manufacturer has apparently decided to double-down on its mini PC project with additional hardware incentives.
Chuwi is now planning to add a 100 W Core i7-8709G and Radeon RX Vega M GH option to its mini PC for significantly faster CPU and GPU performance than the 65 W Core i5-8305G. Note that these are very similar CPU options to the ones on the recent Intel Hades Canyon NUC and so users can expect a raw performance level similar to the Core i7-7820HK and GTX 1060 Max-Q in a mini PC just 17 x 16 x 7 cm in size. Otherwise, the chassis will remain the same in terms of design and connectivity between the two SKUs. It will definitely be interesting to see how the cooling solution and temperatures will differ, if at all, between the 65 W i5-8305G SKU and the more demanding 100 W i7-8709G SKU.
Chuwi's decision to build a Kaby Lake-G mini PC with the Core i7-8709G is notable as this specific CPU is available only on the Hades Canyon NUC thus far. In contrast, the Core i5-8305G can be found on the latest XPS 15 9575 convertible while the Core i7-8705G can be found as an option on the HP Spectre x360 15. This makes Chuwi one of the very few manufacturers to offer Kaby Lake-G PCs for consumers.
Users who subscribe to Chuwi's IndieGogo newsletter will be informed of future launch dates with savings of up to 38 percent on some Chuwi products.
