The Huawei MateBook X Pro launched early last year to decorative reviews all around despite the fair number of cut corners in terms of performance. Its success has apparently spawned at least one copycat in the form of the Chuwi LapBook Pro.
The 14.1-inch LapBook Pro sports a very similar aluminum alloy design to its 13.9-inch Huawei counterpart including the very narrow bezels and high 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. Unlike the 3:2 aspect ratio of the Huawei, however, Chuwi will take a more traditional 16:9 approach with its native 1080p display. Other core specifications include:
- Intel Gemini Lake N4100 SoC
- 4 GB LPDDR4 RAM
- 64 GB eMMC 5.1 ROM w/ M.2 slot for expansion
- USB 3.0, 3.5 mm earphones, USB Type-C w/ Power Delivery, Micro-HDMI
- 802.11ac wireless w/ Bluetooth
- 37.24 Wh battery
- 324.2 x 209 x 13.4 mm
- 1.43 kg
While the price is still unknown, we fully expect it to heavily undercut the MateBook X Pro since the Chuwi model utilizes a very low-power Celeron N4100 SoC with no discrete GPU options. Existing LapBook models have impressed us in terms of visual design while actual performances have been mixed across the board. As usual, users shouldn't expect Ultrabook-level performance out of these passively-cooled Celeron solutions.
