Many Apple fans looking to build a smart home based on their favorite ecosystem may yet be inclined to look back in regret at their beloved legacy speakers that are not compatible with their brave new fully-wireless, possibly even automated, dreams. However, Belkin has introduced a new solution that might save that beloved old sound-system from having to be dumped for a new wireless one.
The SOUNDFORM Connect is a new adapter that might confer wireless connectivity on any speaker (or its receiver), so long as it has its own power connection and also has a 3.5mm or optical port. Once plugged in, the hardware in question should show up as an Apple AirPlay 2 device.
Therefore, it can be controlled from a user's Apple tablet, phone, TV or even PC from the Home app on either platform, and can also then be included in a multi-room or automatic system.
The SOUNDFORM Connect has tvOS, iOS or iPadOS 11.4 and macOS Catalina as minimum requirements, and also has a USB type C to A cable for its own power needs. It can be pre-ordered on Belkin's website from now for US$99.99, and will also become available on Amazon soon.
