If Tony Stark was an Asus guy then the Infinity is Iron Man's ultrabook. It's the world's first laptop to have a lid made from Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which might make it the most robust computer around right now. Think you can scratch it? Asus laughs in your face. As our demonstrator told us, the Native Damage Resistance means it should be able to withstand some decent sized drops.

Dark beauty. It's small. It's a premium product. And it's fast. We almost don't dare to call the new Zenbook UX301 an "ultrabook", as it attempts to be much more than that: the perfect mobile companion. With the top-notch materials, great build quality and high-end innards of its newest flagship; Asus wants to dethrone its fiercest competitor, Apple. The price point? That topic almost becomes a minor matter.

There's a lot to like about the ASUS Zenbook UX301LA, including its high resolution screen and overall performance. The RAID 0 storage array is particularly impressive. We also found its keyboard to be very good, and we enjoyed the styling and the build quality. All up, it's an impressive unit.

The UX301LA is, in many ways, a worthy step forward for the company’s already excellent Zenbook line. Besides its elegant, eye-catching design, the system shaves off weight and improves display resolution while still providing decent battery life, something not all competitors can claim (we’re looking at you, Yoga 2 Pro.)

Asus UX301LA-DE002H
The Asus Zenbook is a great series from Asus offering lightweight laptops or ultrabooks, which are very easy to carry around. The Asus UX301LA-DE002H only weighs 1.2 kg, making it one of the lightest notebooks out there in the market.
The design of the laptop features a blue gorilla glass lid which has a nice tranquilizing atmosphere to it. However, this glass lid does require some maintenance as it very susceptible to fingerprints. The 13 inch screen is also a noteworthy feature. With a 2560 by 1440 resolution, the display has great sharpness and viewing angles. It may not be the best in the market, but it is certainly good enough.
Despite its light weight, the Asus UX301LA-DE002H is a powerhouse by nature. With an Intel Core i7-4558U processor and 8 GB of RAM, the laptop is capable of running multiple applications and high level applications with ease. Unfortunately, the device does not come with a second graphic card.
The integrated Intel HD Graphics 5100 is by no means bad, but certainly leaves room for improvement, especially with most ultrabooks offering a second Nvidia or AMD card. All in all, the Asus UX301LA-DE002H is a really decent laptop. It is both lightweight and capable of high processing work. In addition, it also looks great! The only downside of this laptop has to be its high price tag.

That said, it is underwhelming in the battery department and the price is pretty steep compared to the competition. You can pick up a similar specced MacBook Air for less money - still convincingly the best lightweight laptop you can buy - and at this price bracket, the Zenbook doesn't separate itself enough from other Windows 8 ultrabook competitors

I'm slightly underwhelmed by the blandness of the Asus Zenbook UX301LA. There's nothing to really hate about it, but nothing to truly love either. Anyone who buys one wont find any real faults with it, but is unlikely to relish the opportunity to open and use it. When sitting in a computer shop, along with row after row of other similar laptops, it's hard to imagine the Asus Zenbook UX301LA drawing crowds. In that situation, the immediate stand-out feature will certainly be the price tag, and it may take a creative salesperson to convince a customer that the UX301LA is significantly better than another Ultrabook that costs a third less.

After using the Asus UX301LA for a while, it leaves us with no major complaints, it works excellently as a portable computer and is unlikely to cause any problems.??But it equally lacks a single wow-factor feature that make us love it. It gets the job done, but no more. Although Asus has clearly avoided plastic where it can, the UX301LA doesn't have the quality feel of a £1400 computer, which is more expensive than many other Ultrabooks. To justify its high price, ticking boxes isn't quite good enough.

As you might expect from such a high-end laptop, the UX301LA’s 13.3in IPS touchscreen display looks fantastic. With an sRGB colour gamut coverage score of 88.4 per cent, colours were bright and vibrant and the display’s glossy finish helped them to leap out of the screen. Contrast levels were good, too. We measured a contrast ratio of 933:1, and our high contrast test photos all showed lots of detail. A few darker areas were slightly obscured by areas of solid black, but on the whole we were pleased with the UX301LA’s image quality. Wide viewing angles and a generous amount of screen tilt meant we could see the screen from a variety of angles without any major shift in contrast.

The Asus Zenbook UX301LA is undeniably an achingly desirable laptop. The display isn’t all it should be, but its stunning design, performance and features are all first class. What prevents it from walking away with an award is the cost. With top-quality rivals such as the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro retailing for £1,000, and our current A-List choice, the Dell XPS 12, representing a saving of more than £300, the Asus Zenbook UX301LA is simply too expensive.

The Asus Zenbook Infinity UX301LA is the successor to the Zenbook Prime UX31A, which we gave five stars a year and a half ago. The Asus Zenbook Infinity UX301LA is a very good ultrabook with a superb body and high-end components for great all-round performance. The main drawbacks are slightly off-kilter onscreen colours and low-quality speakers. Another five-star laptop from Asus!

The 13in ultraportable laptop market is intensely competitive, but the UX302 holds its own against stiff competition. Ultimately, the choice comes down to what you want from a laptop. For the best keyboard, touchpad and multi-touch gestures, and incredible battery life, the 13-inch MacBook air is a great choice. The UX302LA is undoubtedly one of the most elegant Windows Ultrabooks we’ve seen so far. Its performance is more than adequate for running Microsoft Office and other productivity software, and represents good value for a laptop in this price range. Battery life isn't atrocious but it could be better. Perhaps the bigger concerns are the limited about of RAM (4GB) and the glossy screen.

The design is luxurious and doesn't nab too much from the big book of Apple, the screen is astonishing, and it's rounded off by solid battery life and decent performance. The cigar-robbing flaw is the RAM – the 4GB module is a chokepoint in an otherwise powerful performance. This is still a lovely laptop, though. In fact, it's our new favourite ultrabook.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
