Asus Vivobook S 16X OLED dubbed slimmest 16-inch 4K laptop powered by Intel Alder Lake-H and AMD Rembrandt-H options

Asus is refreshing its Vivobook S lineup at the company's Pinnacle of Performance event today. The Vivobook S series is available in both Intel and AMD variants in screen sizes ranging from 14 to 16 inches.

The Asus Vivobook S 16X series is being pegged as the world's slimmest 16-inch 4K laptop. The Vivobook S 16X S5602 offers Intel Alder Lake-H options including the Core i5-12500H and Core i7-12700H. The laptop can be equipped with up to a total of 16 GB DDR4-3200 memory of which 8 GB comes soldered onboard. Asus claims that its IceCool thermal technology can allow full 45 W performance from these processors.

The Vivobook S 16X features a 16:10 3,840x2,400 NanoEdge display with a claimed 0.2 ms response time, 100% DCI-P3 coverage, PANTONE-validation, and a 600 nits peak brightness. This panel is VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500-certified. A non-OLED 2,560x1,600 IPS-level panel option is also available.

Buyers can opt for either 512 GB or 1 TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage. Being an Intel platform, the Vivobook S 16X S5602 includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports apart from a USB 2.0 Type-A and USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A port each, a HDMI 2.0b-out, and a combo audio jack. Networking needs are addressed by built-in Wi-Fi 6E with Bluetooth 5.2 or Wi-Fi 6 with Bluetooth 5.0. A 70 Whr battery keeps the device ticking.

The Vivobook S 16X M5602 AMD offers similar specifications as the Intel variant. The S 16X M5602 is powered by the Ryzen 7 6800H, but Asus also indicates a Ryzen 9 6900HX option as well. The S 16X M5602 also offers up to 16 GB of DDR5 RAM with 8 GB coming onboard and up to a 1 TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD.

Unlike its Intel cousin, the Vivobook S 16X M5602 offers only the 4K OLED panel option. As expected, there are no Thunderbolt ports but you get 2x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C ports instead. All other specifications are similar to the Intel variant including availability of Wi-Fi 6E and a 70 Whr battery.

The Vivobook S 16X will be available in Midnight Black, Solar Silver, and Sandy Grey color options. Pricing starts from €1,299 with availability from Q2 2022.
