The Intel Core i9-12900K has followed in the footsteps of the i9-12900 by appearing on the much-maligned UserBenchmark site. At the time of writing, four test runs had been recorded for the flagship Alder Lake chip, with it producing astonishing results. The average bench score and most of its core scores put it far ahead of anything else from either Intel or AMD, although the Ryzen 9 5950X still has a good lead in the 64-core test (2,940 points average vs. 2,530 points average for the i9-12900K).
While UserBenchmark is notorious for promoting Intel chips over AMD’s offerings, it can still offer a snapshot of a new processor’s performance that is often mirrored via more acceptable benchmark sites. So while comparing the i9-12900K against the Ryzen 9 5950X might seem like a foregone conclusion with a win for Team Blue, it is still worth seeing what the 16-core (8C + 8c), 24-thread powerhouse can do against Rocket Lake’s i9-11900K.
Only four Intel Core i9-12900K samples have been tested on UserBenchmark so far compared to over 11,000 for the i9-11900K, so there is plenty of time for differences to become smaller (or greater). At the moment, the Alder Lake chip has an incredible 122% average bench, which destroys the 109% average for the older processor. As for 1-core and 2-core results, the i9-12900K manages averages of 228 points (+22.46% over Rocket Lake) and 436 points (+15.34%), respectively.
Things are looking good for the top SKUs in Alder Lake so far in regard to synthetic benchmark leaks. While UserBenchmark may not be the most beloved site, as mentioned above, it does often mirror performance results reported by other sources. Signs indicate that Alder Lake and the Intel Core i9-12900K can offer significant competition in a CPU market that has been battered over the last 18-24 months, but the supposed price tags just might be too much for builders on a budget.
