Apple unveils Beats Solo 4 with USB-C, lossless audio and 3D sound
In addition to the Beats Solo Buds, Apple has just recently unveiled the new Beats Solo 4, wireless over-ear headphones that are said to offer first-class wearing comfort with a weight of just 217 grams. The new "UltraPlush" ear pads, the slightly angled ear cups and the headband with adjustable sliders are also intended to contribute to greater comfort.
Apple has been able to increase the battery life of the new model from 40 to 50 hours, while the Beats Solo4 are charged via USB-C instead of micro USB. The USB-C connection also allows lossless sound to be transferred digitally to the headphones. Another practical aspect is that the headphones can be used via a 3.5 mm cable, even when the battery is empty. The headphones can be automatically paired with both an Android smartphone and an iPhone and support both Apple's "Find My" and Google's "Find My Device" network.
Only voice control via "Hey Siri" is reserved for iPhone users. The foldable design and the supplied bag ensure easy transportation. One of the hardware highlights is the support for Spatial Audio with head tracking for more convincing virtual surround sound, while the 40 mm drivers specially developed for the Beats Solo4 are intended to provide more balanced sound with improved frequency response. As with the previous model, Apple has also dispensed with active noise suppression on the Beats Solo 4.
Price and availability
The Beats Solo 4 are now available in the Beats online store for $199.99, in either pink, blue or black. By comparison, the Beats Solo 3 currently cost around $148 on Amazon.
