Apple iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro to get revamped MagSafe, Under-Display Face ID delayed
The French website Webseite ShopSystem recently published images (embedded below) that supposedly show dummies of the entire Apple iPhone 16 series, including the size and position of the magnets required for MagSafe.
As a direct comparison with a dummy of an iPhone 15 Pro shows, the magnetic ring is significantly thinner. The inner diameter of the ring and the position appear to have hardly changed, so it can be assumed that this adjustment will not affect compatibility with existing MagSafe and Qi2 accessories. Such an adjustment could primarily serve to save space in the smartphone housing, which could be utilized for the slightly larger batteries of three of the four models, among other things.
Meanwhile, Ross Young, analyst and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, provides a glimpse into the future of the iPhone. He claims that all four models will finally receive a 120 Hz OLED display next year, although the long-awaited under-display Face ID module will be further delayed. While this was originally expected for the iPhone 16 Pro, it is only listed for the iPhone 17 Pro in the new roadmap.
An X post now states that this upgrade could even be delayed to 2026 and thus to the iPhone 18 Pro. An iPhone that does not have a punch hole at all and not only has Face ID but also the selfie camera invisibly under the display is not expected before 2027. Furthermore, as is usual with such roadmaps, further delays and changes to plans by Apple cannot be ruled out.
Apple to go all LTPO in 2025, even base models to get 120Hz refresh, finally. https://t.co/n0ivg08pde pic.twitter.com/dL5H03SyON
