Spotify HiFi is a long overdue tier that is yet to make an official debut. The streaming company announced it back in February 2021, and it was supposed to launch by the end of that year. But now we're in May of 2024, and there's yet no official word on when it will be arriving.
We have had many leaks around it ever since the official announcement. Some of them pointed to the HiFi tier as being named "Supremium" and said it would be an upgrade over the Spotify Premium tier. These rumors have also suggested that the new plan would cost $20/month, but these are yet to be confirmed by the streaming service.
What we do have is yet another leak on Spotify HiFi. This time, it's about the UI elements and dialog prompts. They were uncovered by Redditor OhItsTom, who was able to forcefully make them appear on desktop and mobile. Regarding the UI elements, they show that the lossless streaming option will come with a compatibility checker.
As the shared screenshots show, this compatibility checker will let you know if the connection, bandwidth, and listening device can deliver the best experience. They also show a couple of advisory panels informing users that listening over Bluetooth may not offer a proper HiFi experience and about listening to lossless music offline.
In addition, these screenshots show that the "Lossless" option on Spotify will offer a streaming quality of up to 2117 kbps. The UI elements also mention that 24-bit lossless will only be available on a limited number of songs, which will be played via the FLAC audio format.
Moving to the next set of screenshots, they show the Spotify HiFi introduction prompts on a mobile device. These say that you will be able to stream lossless music wirelessly on compatible devices via Spotify Connect. They will be played at "up to 24-bit," and there will be a "Lossless" label when you're streaming those tracks.
One thing to note from these screenshots is that there's no mention of "Supremium," which suggests that the Spotify HiFi tier could simply be called "Lossless." Another thing is that while this leak didn't shed any light on when the new plan will roll out, it does show that the streaming company is still working on it. However, one of the comments on the Reddit thread pointed to the tier being launched at the High End Munich 2024 event, which is an upcoming trade show that's all about audio products (FiiO Q3 MQA curr. $85.95 on Amazon).
