Apple shows off updates to Logic Pro music studio app with new AI-enhanced backing bands and more
Apple showed off some new software today. Included in the event was the new versions of Logic Pro, the Cupertino company's music studio app, which brings several AI-focused features.
Stem Splitter allows musicians to import any audio file, such as a voice memo, and isolate the different instruments in it into separate tracks for drums, bass, vocals, and "other instruments" (which seems to include anything that doesn't fit into the other three categories). Apple claims the tool can create separate tracks from "Voice Memos recordings [sic], an old demo cassette tape, or... a live show." Once the tracks are separated, users can add effects, add new parts, or alter the mix.
ChromaGlow is a feature that allows users to use AI to dial in different "saturation styles." This can add warmth or change the tone to alter the overall sound profile of a track or audio file.
Lastly, the new version of Logic Pro includes updated backing instrumental tracks. One of Logic Pro's most popular features is its inclusion of computer-generated instrumental tracks for drums, bass, and keyboards. Apple recorded various artists on each of these instruments to build out the bones of each instrumental feature. Users can pick from various styles and set the chord progression for their song, and Logic Pro will use AI features to analyze and match the song based on user presets.
Logic Pro for Mac 11 will launch on May 13 as a free update for current users and will be available for $199.99 on the Mac App Store. Logic Pro for iPad 2 launches the same day and will be available for $4.99 per month or $49 per year.
