Apple reveals Mac mini with Apple M6, Wi-Fi 7 and up to 64 GB RAM
The Mac mini ($1,049 on Amazon) has just received a successor. The new model retains the design of its predecessor but gets an upgrade from the Apple M4 (Pro) to the brand-new Apple M6 as well as the slightly older Apple M5 Pro.
While the Apple M5 Pro is already familiar from the MacBook Pro, the Apple M6 is entirely new. The chip features two Super Cores, four Performance Cores, and six Efficiency Cores, as well as a graphics chip with twelve GPU cores. Memory bandwidth ranges from 153 to 170 GB/s, depending on the RAM configuration. According to Apple, the chip delivers four times the AI performance, twice the graphics performance, and 40 percent faster CPU performance, though Apple is comparing the chip to the Apple M4 rather than the Apple M5.
The mini PC supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and 2.5 Gbit/s Ethernet, 10 Gbit/s Ethernet is available for an additional charge. The front panel features two USB-C ports and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. On the back, in addition to HDMI and Ethernet, there are also three USB-C ports, on the lower-priced model with the Apple M6, these support only Thunderbolt 4 (40 Gbit/s), whereas on the version with the Apple M5 Pro, they support Thunderbolt 5 (120 Gbit/s).
Pricing and availability
The new Mac mini will be available on the Apple Online Store starting September 22. The base model with the Apple M6, 16 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB SSD costs $899. The most affordable version with the Apple M5 Pro, which comes with 24 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD, costs $1,699, the upgrade to 64 GB RAM costs $1,000. 10 Gigabit Ethernet is available on both models for an additional $100.
