Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy A14 dominate the charts of the most popular smartphones of 2023
Apple overtook Samsung in 2023 to become the most successful smartphone manufacturer in the world. With a total market share of 20.1%, the iPhone manufacturer is only just ahead of Samsung and its market share of 19.4%, but far ahead of Xiaomi, who lands in third place with a market share of 12.5%.
If the sales of individual models are considered independently of each other, Apple performed even better, which is no surprise given the comparatively few iPhone models. According to Canalys' data, the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max was the most popular smartphone in the world with 34 million units sold in 2023, closely followed by the iPhone 15 Pro Max with 33 million units sold. The much cheaper iPhone 14 falls in third place with 29 million sales, almost on par with the iPhone 14 Pro in fourth place.
The iPhone 13, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 take fifth, seventh and tenth place respectively, meaning that Apple has a total of seven places in the top 10. These statistics once again show that the iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 15 Plus are far less popular than the other models in the respective series. Like the previous year, only one manufacturer of Android smartphones made it into the top 10 this year, namely Samsung. The company managed to secure three places instead of just two in 2022: the Galaxy A14 4G came in sixth place with 21 million sales, the Galaxy A54 5G in eighth place with 20 million sales, and the Galaxy A14 5G in ninth place with 19 million sales.
