Smartphones are getting bigger every year, and there is no end in sight to this trend. According to information from a reliable leaker, Apple is considering equipping both the iPhone 20 Pro and the iPhone 20 Pro Max with larger displays.

The Apple iPhone 17 Pro ($1,049 on Amazon) has a screen diagonal of 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max features a larger 6.9-inch display. While the screen size of the iPhone 18 Pro (Max) is not expected to change, Apple could equip both Pro models with even larger OLED panels as early as next year.

The generally very reliable leaker Digital Chat Station stated several weeks ago that the Apple iPhone 20 Pro Max, which is set to be unveiled in September 2027 to mark the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, is expected to have a 7-inch screen. Now, the leaker adds that Apple is currently testing a 6.4-inch display for the more compact iPhone 20 Pro. While Apple is reportedly using displays with even narrower bezels, this reduction in bezel width is said to be insufficient to make room for the larger panels, so both Pro models are expected to be slightly larger next year.

The display aspect ratio is reportedly unchanged. As a result, next year's iPhones would only become marginally larger – a 6.4-inch display with the same aspect ratio as the iPhone 17 Pro is 6.8 cm wide and 14.8 cm tall, which is about one millimeter wider and three millimeters taller, the screen area increases by 3.2 percent to 100.3 cm². A 7-inch iPhone 20 Pro Max would be at least 7.4 cm wide and 16.2 cm tall. Here, too, the display would grow by about one millimeter in width and three millimeters in height, with the display area increasing by 3 percent to 120 cm².
