Latest Google Health update finally enables two-way syncing with Apple Health

Google Health has finally added two-way syncing capabilities between its Google Health app and Apple Health for iPhone users, making it easier for Fitbit users to keep their health data consistent across both platforms. Previously, users could only import data from Apple Health, HealthKit and Apple Watch, but couldn't send Fitbit-collected data back without relying on third-party utilities. This one-directional limitation dates back to 2014, when Fitbit declined to support Apple's newly launched HealthKit platform.

The latest Google Health 5.05 update removes this limitation by allowing workouts, steps, sleep information and other supported metrics collected through Fitbit devices (such as the Versa 2) to sync directly with Apple Health. But not everything can be transferred; metrics such as heart rate variability reportedly don't carry over yet. The new option is available via Google Health app's Partner apps section, where iPhone users can link Apple Health and choose the permissions they want to grant.

Version 5.05 also introduces Smart Health Links for US users, enabling medical records stored in Google Health to be shared with healthcare providers or family members via a URL or QR code. The additions come as Google continues to refine its Google Health app following the replacement of the Fitbit app earlier this year, addressing user feedback while expanding interoperability with competing platforms.
