Apple is months out from releasing the iPhone 15 series. In the meantime, first renders of the iPhone 16 Ultra have emerged, courtesy of leaked CAD data. Purportedly, the iPhone 16 Ultra will feature a 6.9-inch display, which would make it the tallest iPhone ever.

The iPhone 15 series is still a few months away from launching. However, 9to5Mac claims to have already obtained early CAD files of an iPhone 16 series model. Supposedly, these files are of the iPhone 16 Ultra, the premier model in the iPhone 16 series. As always, we would recommend viewing such early leaks with caution, even when they originate from otherwise reliable sources. Considering that Apple is not due to release any iPhone 16 models before the end of summer 2024, the design and product naming of the iPhone 16 Ultra may change between now and then.

In any case, current information suggests that the iPhone 16 Ultra will have a larger display than the current iPhone 14 Pro Max or this year's iPhone 15 Pro Max. Allegedly, the largest iPhone will grow to 6.9-inches, 0.2-inches taller diagonally than the iPhone 14 Pro Max or iPhone 15 Pro Max. As such, the iPhone 16 Ultra is also noticeably taller and wider than its Pro Max predecessors.

As the image below shows, the iPhone 16 Ultra is approximately 165 mm tall and 77.2 mm wide. By contrast, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to arrive measuring 159.8 x 76.7 mm. In other words, the iPhone 16 Ultra will be slightly narrower than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which measures 77.6 mm across. Additionally, the iPhone 16 Ultra will be narrower than the iPhone 12 Pro Max or iPhone 13 Pro Max, which both came in at 78.1 mm. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 Ultra will be the tallest iPhone to date by just over 4 mm. The iPhone 16 Ultra should also retain flat display edges with a Dynamic Island cut-out; under panel Face ID is now not expected to land until the iPhone 17 series in 2025.
