Apple iPhone 13 mini: As compact as high-end allows
After having reviewed the Apple iPhone 13 mini, it's clear that even the smallest smartphone is capable of delivering a lot of power. Just like the iPhone 13, the case of only 13.1 x 6.4 centimeters and 7.65 millimeters of thickness houses the Apple A15 Bionic SoC with 6x 3.2 GHz and a quad-core GPU; this is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage in our test configuration.
Just like its larger counterpart, the iPhone 13 mini also provides a smooth operating system and is able to run demanding apps over prolonged periods of time without any issues. In addition, the compact phone still manages to achieve a very good battery runtime of over 14 hours in our real-world Wi-Fi test despite its slightly smaller battery of 2,406 mAh.
The camera setup is the same as well with two 12 MP lenses at the back and one 12 MP camera at the front. The resulting image quality is likewise identical. Photographs are rendered on the small OLED display with very rich colors and a very high brightness of 830 cd/m² on average.
This also makes the iPhone 13 mini well suited for outdoor use, as image content can still be recognized well here despite the glossy display surface. The fact that the case is IP68-certified ensures protection against dust and water as well.
Although the small smartphone performed very well in everyday testing, some app controls were a bit too small due to the reduced screen size. This was especially noticeable in games, but it can also lead to difficulties in other applications.
