Aoostar has quietly released its latest eGPU docking solution after previewing the same device earlier this week. To recap, Aoostar is already well-versed in the world of eGPUs, with the company having launched the AG02 Graphics Dock and the XG76XT in the last few years, among others.
Most recently, it introduced the EG01, which it has since started selling for $99 to price match the comparable Minisforum DEG1 (curr. $99 on Amazon). While the EG01 connects to devices exclusively via OCuLink (PCIe 4.0 x4), the EG02 has another method up its sleeve. Specifically, Aoostar has added a Thunderbolt 5 port that supports power and data transfer rather just the latter in OCuLink's case.
According to Aoostar, the EG02 can recharge a device at up to 140 W, unlike Thunderbolt 4 and USB4-capable eGPU docks. Please note that the second Thunderbolt 5 port visible in Aoostar's marketing pictures is only a downstream connection that delivers 27 W power and supports DisplayPort Alt Mode. Moreover, Aoostar has included a full PCIe 4.0 x4 port for desktop graphics ports and a DC adapter port for powering mini-PCs directly.
The EG02 also contains a removable mount for storing a mini-PC above an ATX or SFX power supply to reduce clutter. Currently, the EG02 is available to purchase from Aoostar directly for $219, a price that the company has allegedly discounted from a $299 MSRP. Please see Aoostar's website for more details.
