It appears there's been some confusion in regards to who owns Apex (Wuxi), the entity assumed to have supplied the problematic batteries. Below is an excerpt from an e-mail sent to Notebookcheck by a Gateway PR division staffer who also represents Amprius:
Amprius Technologies, Inc. became an independent company in early 2022 after it was spun out of Amprius Inc. Since that time, there has been no business, operational, or commercial relationship between the two entities.
Apex (Wuxi) Co., Ltd., was also part of Amprius Inc. before being spun off in 2022. It has never been affiliated with Amprius Technologies, Inc..
Amprius Limited was a legacy holding entity under Amprius Inc. While it may still appear on Apex Wuxi’s corporate filings, it is no longer active. Its appearance in those filings reflects legacy ownership records that may remain in some public registries.
Slightly edited article continues as follows:
Anker is a household name when it comes to power banks, but Anker Innovations, the company behind the brand has had to issue a recall for multiple power bank models. In the wake of this, Anker Innovations has announced that it has changed its battery supplier.
According to a report by South China Morning Post, Anker Innovations has announced a partnership with Amperex Technology Limited (ATL) to serve as its new battery supplier. ATL replaces Apex (Wuxi) Co., Ltd..
While Anker has refused to reveal if Apex (Wuxi) supplied the batteries in the power bank models recalled, it did confirm it has ceased doing business with it. However, Chongdiantiou, a Chinese agency that is known for evaluating battery and charging technology, has said that the Anker Zolo Power Bank (20,000mAh, 30W with integrated USB-C cable) a.k.a. Anker 1681 uses a battery supplied by Apex. Apex (Wuxi) is also said to have launched an investigation into the recalled power banks.
ATL, which is known for supplying Apple and Samsung with batteries, will supply Anker with an initial batch of 45 million lithium-ion batteries according to an official statement reportedly posted on Anker's website.
