Following an announcement in late June that power banks manufactured before 2024 are banned from flights in China, Ugreen, a leading power bank brand has announced a trade-in program for its power banks that do not meet flight requirements.
The ban, which only applies to local flights in China, restricts passengers from carrying power banks without a 3C logo. The ban comes following a ruling in 2023, that power banks should have a 3C certification. Ugreen has now opened a trade-in program for those who purchased a power bank without a 3C logo after August 1, 2023.
Eligible customers who present a valid receipt of purchase will receive a 50% refund (up to CNY500/$70/€59) of the original cost of the power bank. They can also exchange their power bank for one of three models (PB509, PB561, and PB721) which have the mandatory 3C certification and are thus permitted to carry on flights. The trade-in program will run until the 5th of August 2025.
Ugreen clarifies that although the power banks customers are returning do not have a 3C logo, they are still safe as they met the safety requirements and regulations as at the time they were launched.
