Anker is expanding its range of smart door locks with the Anker Eufy FamiLock E34. The model can be ordered for just under $280 and is available directly via Anker's online store.
As usual for a smart door lock, biometric authentication is supported. Anker utilizes technology that, while not entirely new for door locks, is rather unusual: a vein scanner. This analyzes the blood vessels under the skin, promising 99.99% accuracy and recognition in 0.1 seconds. Anker states that this cannot be manipulated by photos or 3D models, as it is very difficult to replicate a person's vein pattern. This scanner is also advertised as usable with wet or dirty fingers. In-built Wi-Fi means that owners can control the lock from anywhere via the eufy app, Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings through Matter.
Unlocking is also possible via the physical key, which is probably intended more for emergencies, and the lock can also be unlocked via voice command, an app or a passcode. The time after which the lock actually locks the door can also be configured. A high-capacity 10,000mAh rechargeable lithium battery is installed, with a specified runtime life of around 8 months. Moreover, an integrated 750mAh non-removable backup battery ensures that the lock remains active during power outages or main battery replacement.
As this is actually a lock and not just a system, it has to be installed in place of the lock. That said, Anker promises easy installation; the eufy FamiLock E34 can fit into standard US and Canada doors without the need for any drilling.
