Anbernic has slowed up in recent weeks with its usual onslaught of gaming handheld releases. Since launching the RG476H and RG477M (curr. $299.99 on Amazon) over the summer, Anbernic has only introduced the RG DS. Even then, the company began teasing the device in early October. However, new rumours suggest that Anbernic may not be done with hardware releases this year just yet.
According to leaker Neon Rabbit, Anbernic is now preparing a new alternative to the existing RG406V. Posting on Bilibili, the account claims that Anbernic has created the RG477V from the guts of the existing RG477M. As such, the RG477V is said to contain a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chipset and a 4.7-inch IPS display. Both upgrades over the hardware found in the RG406V, the RG477V will put its considerably faster chipset to use with a 960p resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate that could be used for Black Frame Insertion (BFI) to improve CRT effects.
Unfortunately, battery capacity is said to drop from 5,500 mAh to 5,300 mAh. Neon Rabbit believes that Anbernic has brought across the button layout from the RG406V too, for better or worse. Allegedly, Anbernic is targeting CNY 1,599 (~$225) launch pricing in China for an 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage variant. A 12 GB RAM variant with 256 GB of storage should be available as well, although US pricing information has not emerged yet.
