Amazon has added Zoom’s first smart TV app to the Fire TV Omni Series. The app enables you to start and join Zoom meetings from your TV to make it easier to call friends and family over the holiday period.
There is no built-in camera on the Fire TV Omni Series, so you will need to plug in a compatible webcam for video calls. For best results, Zoom recommends a camera with a 1080p resolution, with a 60-90 degree field of vision positioned at least 6 ft (~1.8 m) away from you. For now, you can only use the inbuilt microphone and speakers on the TV with the Zoom app.
The Zoom app for Fire TV was absent when the device launched in November, then teased as “coming soon” from December 7th. The Zoom app is also available on other Amazon devices, such as the second-generation Fire TV Cube and the Echo Show.
Fire TV Omni Series customers in the US and Canada can download the Zoom app for free from the Fire TV app store. You can also link your Zoom calendar to Alexa for additional benefits like joining your calls with a voice command. You can find more details on setting up the Zoom app here.
